Death Coil

Death Coil is the Necromancer’s signature sustain spell — a shadow projectile that damages a single enemy and heals the caster for 60% of the damage dealt. It’s the engine that keeps solo Necromancer builds alive in long fights.

How it works

PropertyValue
TypeActive
TargetSingle enemy
Cooldown8s
ElementShadow
Resource cost30 Mana
Cast time0.4s
Range25 m
Heal60% of damage dealt

Death Coil fires a fast shadow projectile at a single enemy. On hit, it deals weapon-scaled shadow damage AND heals the caster for 60% of the damage dealt (after enemy mitigation).

Combo

Death Coil slots into the Necromancer combo as the sustain step after the burst opener:

  1. Bone Spear (line piercing damage + Brittle debuff).
  2. Decay (DoT, capitalizes on Brittle).
  3. Death Coil on the priority target — the heal keeps you topped off.
  4. Bone Spear is back off cooldown for the next cycle.

This combo is the basis of the Necromancer solo playstyle.

Sustain math

Against a single target, Death Coil returns roughly 45 HP per 100 damage dealt (after armor mitigation). On a Necromancer with 4,000 INT, that works out to ~3,200 HP healed per cast — enough to keep you alive through most boss phases.

When to invest

Max Death Coil at your leisure. It doesn’t need to be the first skill you max, but every Necromancer build maxes it eventually because the sustain is irreplaceable.

FAQ

Q: Does Death Coil heal based on damage dealt or damage taken by the enemy? A: Damage dealt, after the enemy’s mitigation. A 1,000-damage Death Coil against an enemy with 50% shadow resist heals you for 300 HP (60% of 500).

Q: Can Death Coil heal your summons? A: No — Death Coil only heals the caster. Use Animate Dead if you need to heal summons.

Q: Is Death Coil worth casting on low-HP trash mobs? A: Yes — even 100-damage Death Coils heal you for 60 HP. Spam it freely.
