Kraken

The Kraken is the world boss at the bottom of the Sunken Depths dungeon, a massive frost-aligned cephalopod that anchors the Lv 100+ endgame progression track. It is the first world boss most parties attempt after breaking the level cap, and its loot table contains some of the strongest pre-endgame items in the game.

Phase breakdown

The Kraken encounter has three distinct phases, each requiring a different tanking strategy:

Phase 1 (100% → 60% HP) — Surface

The Kraken floats at the surface of the central chamber, exposing its head and four primary tentacles. The tank should position the boss with its back to the ranged stack.

  • Tank buster: Crushing Tentacle — single-target slam telegraphed by a 2-second ground-slam animation. The current tank takes ~85,000 physical damage and must have Guard active.
  • AoE: Tidal Wave — full-room frontal wave. The raid splits into two groups on the left/right pillars.
  • Adds: 4× Drowned Acolyte (Lv 100 elite) spawn every 30 seconds. Off-tanks pick these up.

Phase 2 (60% → 30% HP) — Submerge

The Kraken submerges and the arena floods. The raid must stack on the central pillar (the only dry platform) and dodge telegraphed Frost Ring waves that emanate from below.

  • Tank buster: Icy Grasp — random party member is grabbed and pulled underwater. A DPS must burn the tentacle holding them within 8 seconds or they drown.
  • AoE: Frost Ring — expanding ring AoE, 3-second telegraph. Stack in the center and dodge outward as it shrinks.
  • Adds: 8× Deep One (Lv 95 normal) emerge on each pillar. Burn them down quickly.

Phase 3 (30% → 0% HP) — Enrage

The Kraken surfaces again at half health, this time with permanent frost shields. The raid must split into two teams: one burning the boss, the other cycling Cleanse to remove the stacking Frostbite debuff.

  • Tank buster: Kraken's Wrath — full-party frontal. The tank must face the boss away from the raid AND a Sage or Priest must pre-shield the group.
  • AoE: Whirlpool — the entire arena becomes a damage zone. The raid must hug the central pillar.
  • Soft enrage: at 10% HP, the Kraken gains Multistrike for 30 seconds. Hard-burn cooldowns here.

Strategy

The Kraken is the first wall for most parties attempting Lv 100+ content. The full strategy guide ships in Phase 3 — for now, the short version:

  1. Two tanks, both specced into survivability. Knight + Paladin is the standard pairing.
  2. At least one Acolyte / Priest / Sage for Cleanse in Phase 3.
  3. Save Last Stand (Knight) and Sanctuary (Paladin) for the Phase 3 Kraken’s Wrath.
  4. Bring at least 2 ranged DPS for the underwater tentacle burn in Phase 2.

FAQ

Q: Can you solo the Kraken? A: Yes, Necromancers have done it with full Lv 110 gear. Expect a 35–45 minute fight.

Q: Does the Kraken card stack with other +HP% cards? A: Yes — the +12% HP from the Kraken card is additive with Iron Sentinel, not multiplicative.

Q: What level should I be to start attempting Kraken? A: Lv 100 is the absolute floor with optimized gear. Most parties wait until Lv 105+ for comfort.
