The Aegis of the First Knight is the legendary Lv 95 spear dropped by the Echoing Spire Warden. The +20% Guard duration and +15% Bulwark effectiveness make it the endgame weapon for every Knight and Paladin build.

Special: First Knight’s Resolve
While wielding the Aegis, Last Stand has its cooldown reduced by 30 seconds (180s → 150s) and grants +30% damage reduction during its 5-second window. This is what makes the Aegis essential for endgame boss tanking — the extra Last Stand uptime lets you absorb multiple phase transitions.
How to get it
The Aegis drops from the Echoing Spire Warden on Floor 50 of The Echoing Spire. Drop rate is 25% per kill (the highest of any Warden drop).
- Party size: 10-20 players recommended.
- Enrage timer: 12 minutes hard enrage.
- Respawn timer: 24 hours.
- Alternative: buy from the AH for ~50,000 gold.
Best recipients
- Knight — BiS weapon through the entire endgame. Nothing else comes close.
- Paladin — BiS weapon for tanking builds. Healing Paladins prefer the Lightbringer’s Censer.
- Other classes — not recommended; the Guard / Bulwark bonuses don’t scale with their kits.
Upgrade path
The Aegis of the First Knight is the endgame spear. There is no upgrade past it in Early Access. Future patches may add a Lv 110+ raid weapon (rumored to be a Spear of the Silver Sun), but as of patch 0.1.0 the Aegis is the ceiling.
Lore
The Aegis of the First Knight was wielded by Sir Aldous the First, the founder of the Knight order during the Sundering. After his death, the spear was sealed in the Echoing Spire’s deepest vault. The Warden is the guardian placed to test any who would claim it.

Q: Is the Aegis worth using for DPS Knight builds? A: No — the bonuses are entirely defensive. DPS Knights prefer the Trident of the Drowned King.

Q: Can the Aegis drop at mythic rarity? A: No — it’s locked at legendary in Early Access. Mythic rarity may be added in a future patch.
