Bramble, the Thorned King — Boss Strategy Guide
Bramble, the Thorned King is the final boss of Sunny Meadows 2 and the keystone Lv 25 encounter that gates the Iron Will Spear — the rare weapon every Knight and Paladin leveling build is chasing. A massive plant elemental with ~45,000 HP and a 2-phase Roots → Uprooted mechanic, Bramble rewards parties that respect the phase transition and burn through the 8-minute soft enrage window.
The boss wiki page (Bramble) has the full stats and loot table; this guide is the strategy walkthrough. For the dungeon leading up to the boss, see the Sunny Meadows walkthrough.
Overview
Bramble is a 2-phase encounter with a soft enrage at the 8-minute mark. Phase 1 is a positioning-and-tank check — stand behind the boss, manage the Thornling adds, and let the tank soak the Vine Lash buster. Phase 2 is where most parties wipe: Bramble uproots, gains movement speed, and floods the arena with Toxic Pools. The fight is comfortably clearable in 5-6 minutes by a geared party of 3-4.
Key facts:
- Recommended level: 25 (downscales to Lv 22 with a competent group)
- Recommended party size: 1-5 players (3-4 optimal)
- Soft enrage: 8 minutes (boss gains Multistrike for the rest of the fight)
- Phase 1: 100% → 40% HP (“Roots”, boss is stationary)
- Phase 2: 40% → 0% HP (“Uprooted”, boss gains +30% movement speed, Toxic Pools)
- Keystone drop: Iron Will Spear (rare) — Lv 25-40 BiS for Knights and Paladins
Mechanics
Phase 1 (100% → 40% HP) — Roots
Bramble is rooted to the central platform and fights with Vine Lash and Thorn Volley. This phase is forgiving as long as the party respects the front/back divide.
- Vine Lash (8s cooldown) — single-target strike telegraphed by a 1.5s arm-swing animation. The active tank takes ~3,500 nature damage. Guard is mandatory — unblocked hits will one-shot most Lv 25 characters.
- Thorn Volley (15s cooldown) — 5-projectile fan covering 180 degrees in front of Bramble. Stand behind the boss to avoid. This is the most common cause of early wipes in Phase 1.
- Thornling adds (every 45s) — 4× Thornling adds spawn around the platform. They are Lv 22 normal mobs with low HP — AoE them down before they reach the backline.
The party should be:
- 1× Paladin tank in front of Bramble, holding aggro and blocking Vine Lash with Guard
- 1× Priest Full Support at mid-range, keeping Rejuvenation on the tank
- 2× DPS behind Bramble, burning the boss and cleaving adds on spawn
Phase 1 strategy: Tank holds aggro and faces Bramble away from the party. DPS and healers stack behind the boss to dodge Thorn Volley entirely. AoE the Thornling spawns the instant they appear — letting them live 30+ seconds is how parties fall behind the enrage timer. Aim to push Bramble to 40% HP by the 3-minute mark.
Phase 2 (40% → 0% HP) — Uprooted
At 40% HP, Bramble uproots and the fight changes character. The boss gains:
- +30% movement speed — Bramble now chases the party around the arena
- Burst Roots (10s cooldown) — 6m radius AoE centered on Bramble. The tank must kite the boss away from the rest of the party, or the whole group takes the hit
- Toxic Pool (every 18s) — 3 random AoE zones spawn across the arena and persist for 20 seconds. Standing in them deals 200 nature damage per second. These are the real killer in Phase 2.
- Soft enrage at 8 minutes — Bramble gains Multistrike for the remainder of the fight. DPS cooldowns go here.
Phase 2 strategy: This phase is a positioning check. Pre-assign your party to four corner positions (NW, NE, SW, SE) before the pull lands, and rotate clockwise every time a Toxic Pool spawns under your feet. The tank kites Bramble in a wide circle away from the Toxic Pools — never let the boss stand on top of one, because Burst Roots + Toxic Pool will one-shot the melee stack. DPS burn Bramble from behind, dodging Toxic Pools and Burst Roots on cooldown. At 7:30 elapsed, the Priest switches to emergency healing mode and the DPS pop Multistrike / Berserk burst windows for the soft enrage.
Party composition
| Role | Class | Build | Key responsibilities |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tank | Paladin | Shield Wall PvE | Hold aggro, Guard Vine Lash, kite Bramble in Phase 2 |
| Support | Priest | Full Support PvE | Rejuvenation on tank, Sanctuary on Burst Roots windows |
| DPS 1 | Berserker | Cyclone Leveling | Burn boss from behind, AoE Thornlings, Berserk for enrage |
| DPS 2 | Wizard | Elemental Range | Burst damage, AoE for adds |
A 3-player group (tank + Priest + 1× DPS) clears comfortably in 6-7 minutes. A 5-player group can clear in under 4 minutes and skip the enrage entirely.
Strategy
The fight has three execution rules that override everything else:
- Always stand behind Bramble in Phase 1. Thorn Volley is a 180-degree frontal fan — there is no reason to be in front of the boss. If you are not the tank, you are behind the boss.
- Pre-position corners in Phase 2. Toxic Pools spawn in random locations but persist for 20 seconds. If the party is spread to the four corners before the phase starts, every Toxic Pool is dodgeable by a single rotation step.
- Burst at 7:30. The 8-minute Multistrike soft enrage is the single biggest wipe cause for undergeared parties. If Bramble is still above 20% HP at the 7:30 mark, all DPS cooldowns go immediately.
For the tank specifically:
- Guard every Vine Lash. Unblocked hits will one-shot most Lv 25 characters.
- In Phase 2, kite Bramble in a wide circle around the arena’s perimeter — never toward the party.
- If you take a Toxic Pool tick, use a defensive cooldown immediately. Two ticks in a row will kill you.
For the Priest specifically:
- Rejuvenation is your Phase 1 default. Vine Lash hits every 8 seconds, so the tank needs the HoT rolling constantly.
- Sanctuary on Burst Roots. The 6m AoE is group-threatening — pre-cast Sanctuary 1 second before the telegraph.
- Save Group Heal for the 8-minute soft enrage window. This is where most groups wipe from healing-throughput issues.
Gear breakpoints
Bramble is tuned for Lv 25 — the gear bar is much lower than endgame encounters, but there are still minimums below which the fight becomes a grind:
| Stat | Required | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Tank HP | 8,000+ | Lv 25 quest reward chest + Iron Will Spear |
| Tank mitigation | 40%+ | Iron Will Spear + a leveling shield |
| Priest Wisdom | 600+ | Sanctified robes (Lv 20 quest reward) |
| DPS Strength / Intelligence | 800+ | Lv 25 quest reward weapons or Iron Will Spear |
Below these thresholds, Vine Lash will two-shot the tank and Phase 2 Toxic Pool ticks become lethal. Once you have the Iron Will Spear equipped (which is itself a Bramble drop), the fight gets noticeably easier — this is a soft self-gating encounter where the loot you want is the loot you need to re-farm the boss more comfortably.
Loot table
| Drop | Slot | Rarity | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Iron Will Spear | Weapon | Rare | Bramble (15% drop) — see wiki |
| Bramble Crown | Helmet | Rare | Bramble (12% drop) |
| Heart of the Meadow | Trinket | Uncommon | Bramble (20% drop) |
| Bramble Sap (3-5) | Material | Uncommon | Bramble (guaranteed) |
| Thornling Bark (8-12) | Material | Common | Bramble (guaranteed) |
The Iron Will Spear is the keystone drop — Knights and Paladins chase Bramble specifically to unlock the Iron Will 2-piece set bonus. Expect 6-7 kills on average before the spear drops. On Hard mode, the spear can roll epic with a third stat bonus.
Strengths & weaknesses
Strengths
- Mechanically clear — every attack is telegraphed and dodgeable
- Scales gracefully from solo (Necromancer / Wizard) to 5-player parties
- Loot table includes a definitive BiS weapon for the Lv 25-40 progression window
- First “real” boss for most players — well-tuned for learning 2-phase mechanics
Weaknesses
- Phase 2 Toxic Pools are punishing if the party is not pre-positioned
- Thornling adds every 45 seconds eat party AoE cooldowns
- 8-minute soft enrage punishes undergeared groups — there is no leeway for slow clears
- Iron Will Spear drop rate (~15%) means a real grind for the keystone loot
FAQ
Q: Can I solo Bramble at Lv 25? A: Yes. Berserker, Wizard, and Necromancer are the easiest solos — Necromancer’s summons tank the boss while you cast from range. A solo clear takes 6-8 minutes depending on gear.
Q: Does the Iron Will Spear drop at higher rarity? A: On Hard mode, yes — the spear can roll epic with a third stat bonus. On Normal, it’s always rare.
Q: How long does the enrage timer take? A: 8 minutes from the pull. Parties that don’t down Bramble in 8 minutes usually wipe to the Multistrike soft enrage within 30 seconds.
Q: What happens if I stand in a Toxic Pool? A: 200 nature damage per second. Two ticks will kill most Lv 25 characters. Move out the instant the telegraph appears — the pool takes ~1 second to fully form.
Q: Should I bring a second tank for Phase 2? A: For 5-player groups, yes — two tanks lets one kite while the other holds aggro, which is much safer than solo-tanking through Burst Roots. For 3-4 player groups, a single well-geared Paladin is fine.
