Shinobi Burst PvP Build

The Shinobi is the highest burst melee class in SpiritVale and the undisputed king of PvP. Where the Berserker is sustained DPS and the Paladin is defensive, the Shinobi commits fully to assassination: open with Shadow Step, chain Backstab into poison, vanish before the enemy can retaliate.

This build is the standard PvP loadout for arena 1v1, 3v3, and open-world duels. It is not recommended for PvE leveling or bossing — the Shinobi has a separate PvE build that is less burst and more sustained.

It evolved from the Rogue wiki entry — read that first for the foundation.

Overview

The Shinobi’s PvP identity is “delete someone before they react”. The full burst window from Shadow Step opening to lethal damage is under 3 seconds. If your opener fails, Shadow Step away and reset.

The build layers:

  • Shadow Step (teleport behind target, 8m range, 12s CD)
  • Backstab (3x damage from behind, +50% crit chance)
  • Poison Blade passive (applies 8s DoT, stacks 3 times)
  • Smoke Bomb (vanish, breaks target lock, 30s CD)
  • Shadow Strike finisher (consumes poison stacks for burst)

You are never in sustained combat. You engage, burst, vanish. The Shinobi has the lowest TTK (time-to-kill) in the game.

Stat priority

  1. Agility — primary. Crit and attack speed scale Backstab and burst.
  2. Strength — secondary. Raw damage bonus on Backstab.
  3. Vitality — tertiary. The Shinobi is squishy; baseline HP matters.

Breakpoint to chase: 60% crit chance with full buffs by Lv 60. Crits on Backstab are mandatory for one-shot combos.

Skill rotation

Standard 1v1 opener

  1. Shadow Step behind target (8m range, must be behind line-of-sight)
  2. Backstab immediately on landing (3x damage, +50% crit)
  3. Apply Poison Blade passive stacks (auto-attacks apply)
  4. Shadow Strike at 3 poison stacks (consumes all for burst)
  5. Smoke Bomb if target survives (vanish, reset)
  6. Repeat opener

At 60% crit, Backstab crit deals ~5,500 damage. With Multistrike proc, this becomes 11,000. Most squishy targets die in one opener.

Arena 3v3 opener

  1. Wait for the tank to engage
  2. Shadow Step the backline DPS or healer
  3. Backstab → Poison → Shadow Strike combo
  4. Smoke Bomb if focused
  5. Reset and target the next highest-priority enemy

The Shinobi is the target priority in 3v3. Healers and backline DPS die before they can react. Save Smoke Bomb for when the enemy team peels for you.

Open-world PvP

  1. Wait for a target to engage a mob (lower HP, distracted)
  2. Shadow Step opener
  3. Burst combo
  4. Smoke Bomb and Shadow Step away if multiple hostiles respond

Strengths & weaknesses

Strengths

  • Highest burst in the game
  • Strong mobility (Shadow Step + Smoke Bomb)
  • Strong in 1v1 and 3v3 arena

Weaknesses

  • Zero sustain — once your opener fails, you lose
  • Useless in PvE bossing (no sustained damage)
  • Reliant on positioning (must approach unseen)

FAQ

Q: Is Shinobi viable in PvE? A: Yes, but there’s a separate sustained-damage build (poison stacking over time). This burst build is PvP only.

Q: What if my opener gets interrupted? A: Smoke Bomb immediately. Reset and wait for cooldowns. Never engage a Shinobi without an escape plan.

Q: How do I deal with Paladin tanks? A: Don’t. Switch targets. The Paladin’s Guard + Shield Wall will absorb your burst. In 3v3, burst the healer or backline DPS instead.

Q: Is Shinobi the best PvP class? A: In 1v1 and 3v3, yes — the burst is unmatched. In 5v5 or larger group PvP, Gunslinger or Wizard are preferred for sustained team damage.
